Black Necked Stilts

Black Necked Stilts

I noticed when I was preparing for Open Studios that I had a lot of paintings featuring flowers. I do love other aspects of nature. I think I need to take a break from flowers (on purpose) and focus on some other areas.

I love birds. These black necked stilts are shorebirds. I used to live near a slough. I would see these birds on my daily walks. I think they are fascinating creatures – birds and of course black necked stilts.

This was done on tea stained paper. When I did the staining, I did several sheets at one time. I had forgotten how much effect the tea staining had on the overall painting. It really can turn an ordinary subject into the extraordinary.
